People are increasingly substituting traditional gas heaters with electric heaters in their homes owing to the pervasive gas crisis in Pakistan. The different kinds of electric heaters available in the market these days include fan heaters, blower heaters, quartz heaters, halogen heaters, sun heaters, infrared heaters, carbon fiber heaters, fan radiant heaters, oil radiator heaters, and fan oil radiator heaters. Although electric heaters are a source of relief in the absence of gas, they result in relatively high electricity bills since most of them consume high power.
Best suited for a relatively small room, the fan heater is a personal electric heater sufficient for 2 people. The price of the fan heater varies from Rs 1,500 to Rs 2,500 depending on the manufacturer. The fan heater comes with some useful features such as fan speed adjustment, selecting hot or cold wind blow, adjustable thermostat, automatic shutdown on thermostat warning and portability. On the negative side, this particular heater consumes a lot of power as it operates on two heat settings of either 1000W or 2000W.
The blower heater is also another kind of a personal heater suitable for use among 1 -2 people. The difference between this heater and the fan heater is that it blows air at a higher pressure than a fan filter, which enables it to quickly warming a room. The price of the blower heater varies from PKR 4,000 to PKR 5,000. Some of its salient features include quick heating, thermostat with frost guard setting, and a quiet operation. This heater is also a high power consumption heater, with heat settings of either 1000W or 2,000W.
The quartz heater is also a basic electric heater suitable for only 1-2 people. Its price varies from PKR 2,000 to PKR 2,500. Quartz heater features include wide oscillating angle and safety tip over switch. It consumes less power than the blower and the fan heater as it operates on either 400W or 800W, making it lighter on the electricity bill every month.
The halogen heater is the most widely used electric heater. The basic difference between this and other electric heaters is that heat is emitted through halogen materials. A halogen heater can have anywhere from either 2 to 4 halogen elements. Its price ranges from PKR 2,000 to PKR 4,000, depending on the number of halogen elements. Prominent features of the heater include a wide oscillating angle, automatic shutdown on thermostat warning, and easy portability from one room to another. The halogen heater operates on 3 heat settings of 400W, 800W or 1200W, which also makes it one of the less energy consuming heaters.
The sun heater gets its name from its unique sun style design. It uses halogen materials to emit heat and its cost ranges from PKR 3,500 to 5,000. Its features include quick heating, automatic rolling function, and adjustable height. The Sun heater is also an energy efficient heater, which makes it a popular consumer choice.
The infrared heater is one of the most powerful electric heaters. It emits heat through electromagnetic radiation and is capable of heating large room sizes. Infrared heaters are expensive with price ranging from PKR 5,000 to PKR 8,000. A part from heating a room quickly, this heater can be wall mounted, and it does not dry the air. On the negative side, the infrared heater consumes a lot of power, around 2,200W. One must be cautious when using the infrared heater, as sitting close will result in body burns.
Carbon Fiber Heater
The carbon fiber heater emits heat through 2 carbon fiber materials, which are made of advanced infrared technology. This also makes it a powerful heater, capable of heating big room sizes. Its price ranges from PKR 3,500 to PKR 5,500 and its features include quick heating, wide oscillating angle, high temperature resistant body, and automatic shutdown on thermostat warning. The carbon fiber heater operates on two heat settings of either 500W or 1000W, which makes it more energy efficient.
Fan Radiant Heater
The fan radiant heater offers dual technology of fan and rod, which makes it a powerful room heater. It falls in the category of expensive heaters with price ranging from PKR 9,500 to PKR 10,500.This heater comes with infrared resistors for powerful heating, anti freeze mode, automatic shutdown on thermostat warning, and castor wheels for mobility. The fan radiant heater operates on 2,000W, which makes it a high power-consuming heater.
Oil Radiator Heater
The oil radiator heater is a powerful heater effective for large rooms. It is also on the more expensive side with the price ranging from PKR 9,000 to PKR 11,500. Main features of this heater include automatic shutdown on thermostat warning, integrated handle, cord storage compartment, and castor wheels for mobility. A high power consuming heater, the Oil radiator heater consumes power between 1500W to 2,000W.
Fan oil radiator heater
The fan oil radiator heater incorporates a fan to provide additional heat. The heater is powerful enough to warm large room sizes. Most expensive of electric heaters, its price ranges from PKR 13,000 to PKR 15,000. Fan oil heaters come with more fins to heat large rooms, automatic shutdown on thermostat warning, cord storage compartment, rear safety cover, and castor wheels for mobility. It operates on 3 heat settings of either 1,000W or 1,200W or 2,2000W which makes it a high electricity consuming heater.
