PESCO, Peshawar Electric Supply Company, has started replacing power cables with aerial bundled cables which are theft resistant. The cables have already been installed in Multan, and have been successful in preventing electricity theft and electrocution. The power cables currently being used aren’t properly insulated which enable people to attach hooks on them and steal electricity. Moreover, sometimes during thunderstorms the cables break and fall on the ground, electrocuting people.
The aerial bundled cables will be installed in Peshawar, Charsadda, and Nowshera. In Peshawar, the cables will be installed in areas where line loss is over 30%. These cables are much difficult to install than the currently used ones, and only professional installers can install them. Thus, anyone won’t be able to attach a hook to it. The cables will also be able to bear 300 amperes which is more than the 180 amperes the current cables can bear.
