NEPRA, National Electric Power Regulatory Authority, has approved net metering through the Net Metering Regulations 2015 act. This is good news for solar customers as it mainly benefits them. Net metering has also been approved for customers who have set up wind mills.
In order to take advantage of this regulation, the customer should apply at the local Wapda office with appropriate documents detailing the system setup whether it is solar or wind power. Wapda will install a net meter at the customer’s site which will record the amount of energy delivered by the customer to the local grid and the amount used.
NEPRA has approved net metering to encourage more customers to install solar panels. When more customers will provide electricity to the local grid, it will enable Wapda to meet the demand for electricity and help reduce load shedding.
